Camp MITIOG Testimonials

Being at Camp MITIOG was so great for me. It was the best experience in my life! I loved all the people there and all the activities that we did! I wish I never graduated! I love Camp MITIOG!

--Cynth, camper

Camp MITIOG was the most fulfilling experience of my young adult life. The first year I went because I needed the community service hours. Every year after that I went because of the looks of the children's faces. The joy they showed and received while being at camp MITIOG recharged the soul. Children with spina bifida are usually in the unpleasant situation of being ostracized by society because they are different. At camp they are not different. They are the same as all the other children and the counselors get the privilege of facilitating their experience. As a former counselor I whole-hearted and completely suggest Camp MITIOG to anyone who enjoys children and helping others. It is an experience that will keep you coming back. :)

Oh jeez.  How do I start?  Well, first off, it's probably the most fun experiences of the year.  Basically if it gets canceled, I'll probably file a law suit.  (Chill I'm kidding)  That's seriously how fun it is.  The thing I like most about Camp MITIOG is the ability to hang out with people in the same situation I am.  At school I always get ridicule from kids because I'm basically the idiosyncrasy of the grade.  Camp MITIOG is the only place I don't have to worry about this ridicule.  Another thing I enjoy about Camp MITIOG is the fact that I get to hang out with people a lot older than me.  For some reason, I always get along better with people that are significantly older that me.  It's weird.  I know.  If you or a loved one is faced with this challenge of coping with Spina Bifida, please don't hesitate.  Introduce your child to Camp MITIOG.  You won't regret it.

My daughter Baylee was 11 years old the first time she went to camp MITIOG.  She had never been away from me for more than over night and then it was with someone that was family or close friends.  She had watched her older brother go off to camp every summer and she started asking why she couldn't.  So I got online and started looking for someplace she could go.  I thank God everyday that we found Camp MITIOG.  The first year was scary for me.  She loved it and can't wait to go back every year.  It gave her someplace that was just hers and a place she didn't feel different.  The Staff is great - they work so hard to make this camp a fun place for these special children.  As a parent I'm so thankful that there's some place I know that my daughter can have a good time and be safe without me.  It has helped her grow so much and she's so proud of herself for going.  The camp makes a book for the children to take home that has pictures and stories about their time at camp, and she has shown those books to everyone she knows.  When she's at camp, her brother and I stay in the area in a hotel and have fun together.  It gives him some one on one time with mom that he doesn't get very often.

I went to Camp MITIOG for SEVERAL years.  I enjoyed it every time!  It was just a great time to get away and meet new people and make new friends.  All the staff, counselors and others that helped make it possible for kids to go there, were great!  I was ALWAYS excited when it was time to go to camp.  I just loved it.

I am writing to tell you what a blessing Camp MITIOG has been to my daughter, and our family.  Jessica looks forward to camp each year more than any other event in her life.  She says the most special thing about camp is being with other kids who have Spina Bifida and understand her in a way no one else can.  I love that when other kids talk about their sports and music and church camps, none of which Jess could ever attend, I can remind her she gets to go the best camp of all where she can do all of these things.  I believe Camp MITIOG is proving a more valuable experience for my daughter and family than any other organization around.  Although I would pay all I had to give my daughter this experience, we do have countless other medical bills and related expenses.  This makes the camps generosity an even greater blessing.  I know many families so burdened with bills there is no way their child could ever attend any camp if it weren’t for Camp MITIOG.
God bless you and everyone who helps make Camp MITIOG possible.
